The Flint Hill is a contour burner — the burner tube follows the shape of the log set rather than sitting in a straight line beneath it, so flame comes up between and around the logs instead of in a flat row. The result reads far more like a wood fire than a conventional pan burner does.
Its useful trick is that it is certified for both vented and vent-free operation. Run it with the damper open and you get the taller, lazier flame. Run it vent-free and essentially all the heat stays in the room. That flexibility matters if you are not certain what your chimney can do, or if you want the option to change your mind later.
All sizes use millivolt control, which generates its own power from the pilot — the burner still lights and runs during a power outage. The 18" is also available in a 10K low-output configuration; call if that is what you need.
Vent-free appliances are restricted or prohibited in some jurisdictions and are not permitted in bedrooms or bathrooms in most codes. If you intend to run this vent-free, confirm your local requirements first. Measure your firebox width and leave clearance at both sides.
