Product Description

Napoleon Ascent 30" Traditional Direct Vent Gas Fireplace

The Napoleon Ascent 30" is a 30"-wide built-in direct vent gas fireplace with a traditional look: a split oak PHAZER log set is included, along with the safety barrier screen and a battery back-up for the control, at 15,000 BTU/hr on natural gas or propane with electronic ignition — from $2,729. It vents top or rear on 4" / 7" pipe, frames into a 30-1/2" wide by 14-1/2" deep opening, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Choose the 30" if you want a log fire in a smaller room or a shallow wall: its framed opening is just 14-1/2" deep, it is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms and certified for mobile homes, and can be dressed up with MIRRO-FLAME porcelain panels, decorative fronts and finishing trims.

It is not right for you if you want a contemporary linear flame. The Ascent is a classic log fire, and the 30" frames just 14-1/2" deep for shallow walls.

Specifications

The framed opening is 30-1/2" wide, 35" high and 14-1/2" deep; the fireplace itself measures 30" wide, 34-5/8" high and 14" deep, with a 25-11/16" by 23-11/16" viewing area. The enclosure needs at least 50-1/2" of height for a top-vent installation or 41-5/8" for rear venting. The face is finished in non-combustible material that may stand out up to 4" from the door. Mantel clearances depend on the mantel's depth and are charted on page 49 of the installation manual. The vent pipe needs 3" above and 1" at the sides of horizontal runs and 1" around vertical runs, and the fireplace takes a 1/2" gas line with a flex connector (3/8" without one). No hearth is required in front of it.

How the Ascent 30" compares to the other Ascent sizes

All four Ascent sizes share the split oak PHAZER log set, the safety barrier, battery back-up and the 4" / 7" top or rear vent. The 30" is the smallest and shallowest at 15,000 BTU/hr and a 30-1/2" wide, 14-1/2" deep framed opening, from $2,729; the 36" runs 18,000 BTU/hr, from $2,939, and the 42" and 46" run 22,000 BTU/hr — from $3,039 and from $3,149.

Features

  • Split oak PHAZER log set included, on a pan-style burner
  • Clean-face, tempered heat-resistant glass with the safety barrier screen included
  • Electronic pilot-on-demand ignition with a continuous-pilot mode for cold weather
  • Battery back-up keeps the electronic control working through a power outage
  • Optional MIRRO-FLAME reflective black porcelain interior panels
  • Vents top or rear on 4" / 7" pipe, through a wall or the roof

Answers to common questions

What venting does the Ascent 30" need?

It is a direct vent fireplace on a 4" exhaust / 7" air-intake pipe that leaves the top or the rear of the unit, run out through a wall or up through the roof: up to 20 ft horizontally and up to 40 ft vertically. Use one maker's components throughout and do not mix rigid and flexible pipe. The vent run and termination are ordered separately and sized to your installation, and the outside terminal clearances are listed on page 13 of the installation manual.

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: Split oak PHAZER log set — the Ascent is sold with its log set; Safety barrier screen and tempered glass door; Electronic pilot-on-demand ignition with its control module and transformer; Battery holder for the back-up control (4 AA batteries not supplied); Interior panels in matte black, included as standard — the decorative panel kits are an optional upgrade.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Venting - 4" / 7" direct vent pipe and a wall or roof termination sized for your run (see pg 9 in the installation manual); Electrical - a 115 V connection for the electronic control's transformer; Gas Line - a gas supply to the fireplace's manual shut-off valve - 1/2" if the fireplace is fitted with a flex connector, 3/8" without one.
  • Optional: Interior panels, a vertical or external wall venting package, the Hot Air Distribution Kit, a power vent adaptor kit, the AUB blower kit, decorative fronts, finishing trims and a remote control — the fireplace operates fully without any of them.
Will it heat my room?

No — the Ascent 30" is certified as a decorative gas appliance, not a source of heat. It is rated 15,000 BTU/hr input, and the optional AUB blower kit adds a variable-speed, thermostatically controlled blower; the optional Hot Air Distribution Kit can move warm air to another room through flexible ducting.

Where can it be installed?

Indoors, including bedrooms, bathrooms and bed-sitting rooms, and it is approved for mobile and manufactured homes where local codes allow (fastened in place). It is rated to 4,500 ft, with the input reduced above that. Keep furniture and other objects at least 48" from the front, and do not run it below freezing. For a TV or other electronics above it, see page 50 of the installation manual.

What gas and electrical connections does it need?

A natural gas or propane line to the fireplace's manual shut-off valve (1/2" if it is fitted with a flex connector, 3/8" without one) — natural gas at 4.5" to 13" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c.. Electrically the electronic control takes a 115 V supply through its transformer, and a 4 AA battery back-up keeps it working in an outage. It is built for natural gas; the Propane option adds Napoleon's W175-0395 conversion kit, which a qualified installer fits.

Does buying from The Torch Guys affect my Napoleon warranty?

No. The firebox, burner, PHAZER logs and embers and the ceramic glass (against heat breakage) are covered for as long as you own the fireplace — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; blowers, valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.
