30,000 BTU/hr input on natural gas from a stove 22-1/2" wide, 26-3/4" high and 18-1/2" deep. The Napoleon Haliburton GDS28 is a compact direct vent gas stove for natural gas or propane, with a built-in blower, a PHAZER log set behind ceramic glass and a safety barrier, millivolt or electronic ignition, your choice of a Metallic Black or Satin Chrome door, and a top vent on 4" / 7" pipe, from $3,629, covered by Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Choose the Haliburton if you want a traditional gas stove for a smaller room: it is 22-1/2" wide and 18-1/2" deep, needs only 2" to a combustible back wall, and is approved for bedrooms and permanently located manufactured homes. It vents out through a wall or up through the roof on 4" / 7" direct vent pipe, or through a B-vent or lined chimney with Napoleon's GS-150KT adaptor.
It is not right for you if you want a large stove for a great room. The Haliburton is built for smaller rooms and sits just 2" from a combustible back wall.
The Haliburton is 22-1/2" wide, 26-3/4" high and 18-1/2" deep. Keep 7" to a combustible side wall, 2" to the back wall, 1" in a 45° corner and 20" from the top of the stove to the ceiling; where the flue falls in each placement is in section 3.1 on page 19 of the installation manual. Furniture stays 48" from the front. On wood flooring it needs nothing underneath; on carpet, vinyl tile or another combustible floor it sits on a metal or wood panel the full width and depth of the stove. The direct vent pipe is 4" exhaust inside 7" intake, up to 20 ft horizontally or 40 ft vertically, and keeps 1" at the sides and bottom and 2" on top of horizontal runs, 1" all round on vertical runs.
The Havelock GDS50 is Napoleon's larger direct vent stove, with the same top 4" / 7" direct venting and a blower included — up to 44,000 BTU against the Haliburton's 30,000, on a triple flame burner. The Haliburton starts from $3,629; the Havelock starts from $4,429. Pick the Haliburton for the smaller room.
The vent pipe and termination are sold separately; the stove ships with the firestop for a run through a wall. It vents through 4" exhaust / 7" intake coaxial direct vent pipe from the top — out through a wall or up through the roof — up to 20 ft horizontally or 40 ft vertically. Napoleon's GD-175 wall terminal kit includes only a short length of venting, and Wolf Steel pipe is approved; Simpson Dura-Vent, Selkirk Direct Temp, American Metal Amerivent and Metal-Fab pipe is also approved, each with the starter adaptor required for it (for Dura-Vent, Napoleon's GDS924N). It can also be natural vented through a B-vent or lined chimney with the GS-150KT adaptor kit. We can put the vent package together for your run.
Keep 7" to a combustible side wall, 2" to the back wall, 1" in a 45° corner and 20" from the top of the stove to the ceiling, and keep furniture 48" from the front. Wood flooring needs nothing underneath; on carpet, vinyl tile or another combustible floor the stove sits on a metal or wood panel covering its full width and depth.
Every Haliburton ships with its built-in blower, the PHAZER log set with glowing and charcoal embers, the safety barrier, a manual shut-off valve and the firestop for a wall run. You still need a door (Metallic Black or Satin Chrome), the vent pipe and termination, a gas line, a grounded outlet for the blower, and a metal or wood floor panel if it goes on carpet or vinyl. The remotes, wall controls and satin chrome accents are optional.
Treat it as a fire to look at, not a heater. It burns up to 30,000 BTU/hr and has a built-in blower, but Napoleon certifies it as a vented decorative gas appliance rather than a heat source. If you need a stove to heat a space, it is the wrong choice.
The fire itself is the same either way; the difference is how the pilot runs. With millivolt ignition a standing pilot stays lit and you light it by hand with a push-button igniter. With electronic ignition the pilot lights only when the stove is turned on, with an optional continuous-pilot mode that switches itself off after about seven days unused; it has a power cord and can keep working on four AA back-up batteries in a power failure. Either way, the blower plugs into a grounded outlet.
No. Napoleon's President's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the original purchaser who buys through an authorized Napoleon dealer and has the stove installed by a licensed, qualified installer; there is nothing to register, so keep your proof of purchase with the model and serial number. It covers the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs and embers, ceramic glass (thermal breakage) and porcelain parts for as long as you own the stove, electrical and wearing parts for one year, and labour for the first year.
