60,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, or on propane with Napoleon's conversion kit, across a 42-3/16" by 33-1/16" viewing area. The Napoleon Riverside 42" is a built-in, clean-face outdoor gas fireplace for a patio or yard. It frames into an opening 49" wide, 41-1/2" high and 19-9/16" deep, takes your choice of standard oak, high definition birch or high definition split oak logs, and lights by electronic ignition from the wall switch that comes with it. It is priced from $3,779, with Napoleon's 5 Year Limited Warranty.
Choose the Riverside 42" if you want a real wood-fire look built into an outdoor wall, kitchen or pillar — a tall, deep firebox with a full log set — that you can dress up later with brick or porcelain panels, and that is rated to run on cold nights down to 0°F.
It is not right for you if you want a long, low linear flame. The Riverside is a tall, deep firebox with a full log set, rated to run on cold nights down to 0°F.
The framed opening is 49" wide, 41-1/2" high and 19-9/16" deep; the fireplace itself is 48-7/16" wide, 40-13/16" high and 18-1/8" deep. The enclosure must be at least 72" tall from the bottom of the fireplace, with the ceiling no lower than that. Combustible framing may touch the standoffs at the sides, finishing material keeps 1" from the back, and any finish over the face within 7-5/8" above the opening and 4-1/2" beside it must be non-combustible. Combustible mantel clearance depends on how deep the mantel is — see the chart on page 23 of the installation manual. Keep furniture at least 4 feet from the front.
The Riverside 36" is the same clean-face outdoor fireplace in a narrower firebox: 50,000 BTU/hr with a 36-1/8" x 30-1/16" view in a 43" wide by 38-1/4" high framed opening, against this model's 60,000 BTU/hr and 42-3/16" x 33-1/16". Both take the same three log styles and the same panel options. The 36" is priced from $3,389; the 42" is from $3,779.
Outdoors only — on a patio or in a yard, never indoors or inside the warm-air envelope of a house. A sheltered spot is best, because direct wind makes the flame erratic. It can sit under an overhead cover with no more than two side walls, or under a cover with three walls as long as at least 30 percent of the perimeter stays permanently open — a covered patio, a screened porch, a gazebo or an outside wall of the house all work. Keep furniture at least 4 feet from the front.
Yes. It ships for natural gas; choose Propane above and Napoleon's conversion kit for the 42" (W175-0857) is added to your order, and a qualified installer fits it. On propane it runs from a 20 lb or 30 lb cylinder (not included), which always stays outside any structure the fireplace is in, or from a hard-piped propane line. It is rated 60,000 BTU/hr on either gas, up to 4,500 ft.
No vent is required. If you want more freedom in how the enclosure is built, Napoleon's optional Prestige Heat and Exhaust Management Kit carries heat and exhaust out of the enclosure through 6" B-vent rising at least 36" — it has to be fitted during installation, so decide on it before the enclosure is built.
The firebox drains water through holes across its front and the fireplace is rated for use down to 0°F, but it is not waterproof: the enclosure must be finished with every joint sealed, and it should not go where water runs or pools. Napoleon recommends covering the opening between uses to keep the logs dry — the optional brushed stainless weather cover hangs over the front.
Yes. How high a combustible mantel has to sit depends on how deep it is — see the chart on page 23 of the installation manual. Napoleon recommends a non-combustible mantel. You can also send us your mantel depth. We're here to help!
Yes, with planning. A TV recess needs an enclosure at least 91" tall, and the mantel and TV spacing follow the drawings on pages 18 and 19 of the installation manual. Napoleon recommends adding the optional Prestige Heat and Exhaust Management Kit whenever a TV goes above the fireplace, and your installer checks the TV's temperature limits at installation.
No. The stainless steel components are covered for five years; electrical parts, wearable parts such as the gas valve and logs, and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date, for a fireplace installed in the United States or Canada.
