Required venting: Napoleon 3" x 3" co-linear liner kit + terminal

This direct-vent insert vents up the existing masonry chimney on two 3" flexible aluminum liners (one intake, one exhaust) with a Napoleon co-linear terminal on top. Choose the GDI-320KT / 325KT / 335KT / 345KT kit to match your chimney height and add the GDI-223 (standard) or GDI-229 (high-wind) terminal - the GDI-2320KT family uses a 2" + 3" liner pair where the flue is tight. Do not substitute generic liner - mixing systems voids the listing. Liner lengths and clearances are in the installation manual on this page.

Product Description

Napoleon Rosedale 3 Direct Vent Gas Fireplace Insert

The Napoleon Rosedale 3 is a direct vent gas insert that slides into an existing wood-burning fireplace and vents through two 3" liners run up the chimney. It is rated 24,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, or 22,000 on propane with Napoleon's conversion kit, through a 25" by 12-13/16" view, and its 7-day millivolt pilot needs no household power, so the fire keeps running in an outage. The F60 thermostatic remote, a safety barrier screen and a 5 mm ceramic glass door are included — from $3,149 before the log kit you choose above. It needs a fireplace opening at least 29" wide, 21" high and 15" deep, and carries Napoleon's President's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Choose it if you want to turn an old wood-burning fireplace into a gas fire you run from the couch, with Birch or Oak PHAZER logs, an optional MIRRO-FLAME porcelain, Newport or Westminster brick, or Black Illusion Glass interior, and heat that does not stop when the power does. It is approved for bedrooms and bathrooms and certified for mobile homes, and a standard heat-circulating blower kit is available as an option.

It is not right for you if you are building a new fireplace. The Rosedale 3 turns an old wood-burning fireplace into a gas fire you run from the couch, and it keeps working when the power goes out.

Specifications

The insert is 29-7/16" wide, 20-5/16" high and 15-7/16" deep and needs a fireplace opening of at least 29" by 21" by 15" deep; the backerplate covers the gap around it, from the Large 3-Sided at 25-1/4" by 40-1/4" up to the Trimmable at 40" by 50", cut to fit. A combustible mantel up to 2" deep sits at least 22" above the top of the insert, and deeper mantels sit higher — the heights are charted on page 14 of the installation manual. Combustible trim standing out on either side keeps 1" from the edge of the backerplate, the facing in front is non-combustible, and furniture stays at least 48" from the front. The two 3" liners run 10 to 45 ft, and the chimney flue must be at least 6" round.

Answers to common questions

What’s included, what’s required, and what’s optional?
  • Included in the box: F60 thermostatic remote control with digital screen, and its battery-backup receiver; Millivolt standing pilot with push-button igniter and 7-day pilot shut-off; Safety barrier screen; 5 mm ceramic glass door; Ready-to-run firebox — decorative interior panels are an optional upgrade; Four levelling legs, the vent slide for the two liners, and a 12" gas flex connector with shut-off valve.
  • Required to complete the installation, purchased separately: Log Set - Napoleon's Birch or Oak log kit for the burner; Faceplate - the Small 4-Sided or Small Arched black faceplate that frames the insert; Backerplate - a Large 3-Sided, Large 4-Sided or Trimmable black backerplate that fills the gap between the insert and the fireplace opening; Venting - two 3" liners, one for intake and one for exhaust, run the full height of the chimney, 10 to 45 ft (see pg 12 in the installation manual); Existing Fireplace - a vented, non-combustible wood-burning fireplace at least 29" wide, 21" high and 15" deep, with a chimney flue of 6" round or larger; Gas Line - a 1/2" gas supply to the insert's shut-off valve.
  • Optional: The standard blower kit and the adjustable riser box — the insert operates fully without them.
What venting does the Rosedale 3 need?

It vents through your existing chimney on two 3" flexible liners, one for intake and one for exhaust, each running unbroken from the insert to the top of the chimney — 10 ft minimum, 45 ft maximum. Napoleon's 3" liner kits come in 20, 25, 35 and 45 ft lengths, and the chimney flue must be at least 6" round. The liners are ordered separately and sized to your chimney (see pg 12 in the installation manual).

Will my fireplace take it?

It fits a vented, non-combustible wood-burning fireplace — masonry or factory-built — with an opening at least 29" wide, 21" high and 15" deep. The fireplace is cleaned and sound, its damper is removed or locked open, and its doors, screen and grate can come out; once converted it is for the gas insert only. In front it needs a non-combustible hearth at least 12" deep, or the insert raised 4" or set on Napoleon's riser box over a combustible one.

Does it work in a power outage?

Yes. The 7-day millivolt pilot powers the fire without household electricity, and the remote's receiver runs on four AA batteries as a backup, so you can still turn it on and set the thermostat when the power is out. The pilot shuts itself off after a week with no call for heat and is relit at the insert. The optional blower needs household power.

Can I put a mantel or a TV above it?

A combustible mantel up to 2" deep sits at least 22" above the top of the insert, and deeper mantels sit higher — the heights are charted on page 14 of the installation manual. The wall above gets hot, and without provision for that heat it is unsuitable for a TV or other heat-sensitive objects; a mantel between the insert and your electronics reduces the direct heat on them.

What gas line does it need?

It runs on natural gas or propane from a 1/2" gas line to the insert's flex connector and shut-off valve — natural gas at 4.5" to 7" w.c. inlet pressure, propane at 11" to 13" w.c. It ships for natural gas and converts to propane with Napoleon's kit W175-0850, fitted by a qualified installer; on propane it is rated 22,000 BTU/hr. It is approved for bedrooms, bathrooms and mobile homes where local codes allow, and rated to 4,500 ft.

Does buying online affect my Napoleon warranty?

No. The combustion chamber, heat exchanger, burner, logs, embers, ceramic glass and porcelain parts are covered for as long as you own the insert — parts free for the first 10 years, then at half of retail; blowers, valves, remotes and other electrical parts and the labour are covered for the first year. Coverage starts on the installation date.
