Most people assume a masonry fireplace means a big one. The 33" Mason-Lite exists for the rooms where that was never possible — a bedroom, a study, a narrower wall — and it is still a genuine refractory firebox rather than a steel box with brick-look panels.
At 41" overall width and 1,337 lbs it is the lightest and most compact unit Mason-Lite builds, and like the rest of the range it arrives as pre-cast modular sections that stack and mortar together. No footing, no crane, no mason on site for a week.
Worth planning around: even at this size the unit vents on a 12" flue, the same as the 39" and 44" models. Masonry fireplaces need substantial flue area regardless of opening size — it is what makes them draw properly and what stops smoke rolling into the room.
If you were expecting to vent this on stove pipe, it does not work that way. Budget for a masonry-class chimney system.
A steel zero-clearance firebox is cheaper and lighter, and it goes cold within minutes of the fire dying. Refractory concrete stores the fire's energy and radiates it back for hours. In a smaller room that effect is more noticeable, not less — there is less volume for the stored heat to fill.
Ships with a knock-out and concrete plug. Mortar it in and burn wood; knock it out and run a gas line to a burner or log set. Decide when you are ready.
