This is the biggest firebox Mason-Lite makes, and it is the one specified when the fireplace is meant to anchor a room — a great room, a lodge, a double-height space where a 36" opening would look apologetic.
Built the traditional way it would mean a footing, a mason and weeks of work. As pre-cast modular concrete sections it arrives in pieces a crew carries in and mortars together. The finished firebox weighs 2,652 lbs and behaves exactly like site-built masonry, because that is essentially what it is.
A firebox this size needs a 16" flue. That is a serious chimney — substantially larger than the 12" the smaller Mason-Lite units take, and in a different world from the 6" a wood stove uses.
We will be blunt, because this is where large-fireplace projects go wrong: the chimney for this fireplace is a major line item and it must be designed alongside the structure, not after. Flue area, height and termination all have to be right or a firebox this wide will spill smoke into the room no matter how well it is built. Talk to us before the framing is drawn.
Like the rest of the line it ships with a knock-out and concrete plug. Mortared in, it is a wood-burning fireplace. Knocked out, it takes a gas line for a burner or log set. You do not have to commit at purchase.
Suits flush, corner, internal wall or full projection installation, so it can be detailed into almost any wall condition. Depth is a constant 30" across the range — only the width and flue size change.

For Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories, please contact us for a custom shipping quote, which we'll provide within 1-2 business days. Orders to these locations are not processed until shipping costs are confirmed and approved. We do not currently offer international shipping outside of the United States and its territories.
